In Mount Everest, on the opposite sides of the mountains, there are two base camps. First one is in Nepal, namely South Base Camp. This camp is at an altitude of 5,364 meters (17,598 ft) (28°0′26″N 86°51′34″E) and the second one is in Tibet, China, namely North Base Camp. It is at 5,150 meters (16,900 ft) (28°8′29″N 86°51′5″E).

These base camps are rudimentary campsites at the base of Mount Everest. And these are visited by hikers and also used by climbers at the time of their ascent and descent. While climbing via the southeast ridge, South Base Camp is used, and while climbing via the northeast ridge, North Base Camp is used.

With the help of animals, generally yaks and by porters, supplies are shipped to the South Base Camp. Typically, for acclimatization and reducing altitude sickness, climbers rest at the base. The Everest Base Camp trek which is on the Southside is one the most popular trekking routes in the Himalayas on the south side. Usually, trekkers fly to Lukla from Kathmandu for saving energy as well as time before starting the trek to the base camp. However, it is possible to trek to Lukla. From Kathmandu to Lukla, there are no roads so; the only way of transporting large and heavy goods is by plane.

Reaching the village, the central hub of the area takes two days. And this village Sherpa is famous for its beauty. The ancient Thami and Tengboche monasteries are also a place of attraction and many travellers like to visit these. These are a school too in the mountain village Khumjung, which was established by Sir Edmund Hillary. This school is also famous among tourists.
