These are the Effects of Increased Screen Time for children
As per common sense media, approximately half of all children of eight and under eight are provided personal tablet devices, and on average, they spend about 2.25 hours a day on screens. According to a study, children who use screen gadgets for two hours a day are deficient in language and have weak thinking skills. Having a conversation with children in reciprocal dialogues is essential for language development and interaction on a social level. And using these for seven hours a day can cause thinning of the brain’s cortex, responsible for critical thinking and reasoning. Screens can cause hindrance in a few aspects of development in children by narrowing their focus of interest and limiting their other means of exploration and learning.
Suppose children start spending their maximum time in front of digital screens like television, iPad, video games, etc. In that case, they can’t get interested in non-electronic devices like playing with toys, playing with other children, and outdoor games. And sticking to digital screens will make them anti-social. They won’t like playing, talking, and interacting with children of their age even. And sitting in front of digital screens will cause low stamina and weak body because of the lack of physical activities. The blue light from the screen can affect melatonin, the sleep hormone. So, this blue light can delay sleep. In public television and video games, keep the mind more alert, hindering sleep. And the digital screens which are used while keeping it closer to the face affect more. There are many experiments and studies in favor of this effect of digital screens. These gadgets are addictive even for mature adults and know the importance of time and its effects on the eyes. Even after learning everything, almost every adult in ten check his/her phone ten times in an hour and waste lots of time on these. So, it can be understood from this how addictive it can be for children.
The development of children under three years is rapid. And children of this age group learn by exploring their environment, and they try to mimic their adults. So, here it is essential that what type of role models a child has.
