Places to visit in Kathmandu


Kathmandu is the capital of Nepal which is situated in the valley. The Himalayan Mountain surrounds this city. It is the largest city in Nepal. Settled in 723 BC by the king, it was the royal capital of the Kingdom of Nepal. The majority of people practice religion, like Hinduism and Buddhism.

Boudhanath Stupa

People believe that this stupa was built after the demise of a guru of Buddhism, Buddha in the 14th century. It is famous for its beauty and peace. In this stupa, a giant dome sits on the top of the Buddhist pyramid tower.

The Pashupatinath Temple

The exact time of the existence of this Temple is not known, but it is believed that it is there from 400BC. It’s a perfect example of ancient architecture. There are 518 temples, buildings, and structures in this Temple.

Taragon Museum

Designed as a hotel in 1971, Taragaon museum sits amid Buddha’s Stupa. It was by an Austrian architect Carl Prussia, and the Taragaon Museum symbolises Kathmandu Valley’s rich history of culture and art. The architecture is mesmerising to see. And the whole campus is build using specific bricks.

The Garden of Dreams

Also famous as Swapna Bagicha, the garden of dreams spreads over an area of 4-acres. Kishore Narsingh designed this garden. It represents the seasons of Nepal which are spring, early summer, the summer monsoon season, early autumn, late autumn, and winter.

Kathmandu Durbar Square

Also known as Basantapur Bubar, Kathmandu Durbar Square refers to the palace where the courtroom is held. It is in front of the old royal palace.

Ganatantra Smarak

Ganatantra smarak is a memorial of soldiers who contributed in the civil war of Nepal the war, Maoist insurgency. Situated adjacent to the Narayanhiti Palace Museum, this park is in an area of 4 Β½ acres.

Ranibari Community Forest

Located in the middle of the city, Ranibari Community Forest has colourful birds of Himalayan foothills. More than 67 species of birds are spotted here regularly and have built their shelter.

Tiger Tops

Since 1982, World elephant polo championship is held here. It has two players on one elephant as elephants are big in size, and it becomes difficult to handle one alone, and one of the players should have must have training from the mahawat. But, Tiger Tops stopped hosting the game after 2017.


Kathmandu has been famous among tourist and tourism has played a significant role in the economy of Nepal. In 2013, In the world, it stood at 3rd place, and in Asia, it stands at 1st place for upcoming travelling destination. If someone talks about going to Nepal, Kathmandu comes first in mind, and this is how famous Kathmandu is. And it has gained such wide popularity because of its richness in art and culture.
